Il libro del quale vogliamo parlarvi oggi s’intitola “Patina Style” (Edizioni Gibbs Smith) e, benché risalga al 2011, per noi continua a essere fonte d’ispirazione.
The book we want to talk about today is “Patina Style” (Published by Gibbs Smith) that, even if dated 2011, is still a precious source of inspiration.
È la testimonianza della ricerca di stile elaborata da Brooke e Steve Giannetti in un connubio fra vita privata e professionale. Andando per mercatini e scegliendo oggetti che suscitavano a entrambi un’emozione, disegnando i mobili che non riuscivano a trovare, selezionando vecchi tessuti, pezzi antichi, legni grezzi, artefatti industriali, i coniugi Giannetti sono riusciti a plasmare una speciale alchimica data dall’armonia fra i contrasti: “maschile-femminile, semplice-ornamentale, industriale-dorato, si sono combinati; come in un matrimonio”.
It is the proof of the research for style elaborated by Brooke and Steve Giannetti that has evolved trough their lives, both personal and professional. Wandering through local markets, searching for objects that inspired emotions to both of them, designing furniture that they couldn’t find anywhere, choosing aged fabrics, antiques, roughened wood and industrial artifacts, Mr and Ms. Giannetti created a special chemistry from the harmony between opposites: “masculine/feminine, simple/decorative, industral/gilded, came together; as in a marriage”.
Ne è nata è una filosofia di design che recupera e utilizza componenti d’arredo il cui valore aggiunto sta nel fascino legato alla storia raccontata dal velo di tempo e di vissuto che ricopre ognuno, una storia capace di emozionare. Può essere il muschio che avvolge un vaso o il graffio sopra un vecchio baule, può essere un velluto liso o la tinteggiatura consunta di un mobile: l’imperfezione in “Patina Style” è sinonimo del passaggio di giorni, di un viaggio, del tocco di una mano, di esperienza. Tutto concorre ad arricchire lo charme di ambientazioni in cui elementi apparentemente distanti riescono ad accordarsi alla perfezione sulla scia di un medesimo mood e di una comune tavolozza di colori. Dal crema al grigio-verde, ai toni del mare, le stanze e gli spaccati mostrati in queste pagine comunicano un senso di spontanea accoglienza e calore, una vivibilità informale e riposante. È un piacere che giunge ai nostri occhi senza incrinature e che deriva da un ideale di completezza raggiunto sapendo osare, sfumando confini stilistici, materici, cromatici, d’epoca e di distinzione fra interno ed esterno. Sì, perché il design proposto da Brooke e Steve Giannetti si estende anche all’aperto e mentre elementi architettonici definiscono gli spazi del giardino, è l’esterno stesso a entrare dentro casa con persiane, colonne, cesti e vasi che contribuiscono a creare una sensazione di confort e semplicità.
All this led to a design philosophy that recovers and uses furniture whose added value consists in the charm connected to a story that shows the effects of time and experience, a story able to move. It could be a flowerpot wearing a covering of moss, a scratch on a old trunk, a velvet that is faded over time or the worn paint of a piece of furniture: the imperfection in “Patina Style” is synonym of the passage of time, of a journey, of the touch of a hand, of experience. Everything enriches the charm of settings where items apparently far one from each other are able to harmonize to perfection in the same mood and sharing a common palette. From cream to grey-green, to the tones of the sea, the rooms and the spaces shown in these pages convey a sense of spontaneous hospitality and warmth, an informal and relaxing habitable climate. It is a pleasure that reaches us through the sight uncracked; it comes from an ideal of completeness achieved by daring and blending stylistic, material, chromatic and antique boundaries; an ideal of distinction between indoor and outdoor. In fact, the design proposed by Brooke and Steve Giannetti extends outdoor as well. Architectural elements define the spaces of the garden: is the outdoor itself that finds its way into the house with shutters, columns, baskets and vases that create a feeling of comfort and simplicity.
Fra i particolari che più abbiamo amato di “Patina Style”, vi segnaliamo le linee estremamente pulite e sobrie di alcune ambientazioni, la luminosità degli spazi, le collezioni di orologi e di vecchi libri, la scelta e la disposizione di stampe e quadri. E poi, ci è piaciuto veder spuntare fiori e piante a ogni pagina: rose recise, soffici ciuffi d’ortensie, alberelli, perfino cavoli e insalata, partecipano di un gusto fresco e insieme senza tempo, completando i tasselli di una ricercatezza che non scade mai nel ridondante o nel lezioso.
Among the details that we appreciated the most of “Patina Style”, we point out the extremely clean and plain lines of several settings, the lightness of the spaces, the collections of watches and old books, the choice and the disposition of prints and paintings. Furthermore, we loved to find flowers and plants in every page: cut roses, soft tufts of hydrangea, small trees, even cabbages and lettuce that create a fresh and timeless style, and complete the pieces of a precious jigsaw that never becomes redundant or overdone.
